Groceries and Other Expenses

There is a plethora of food options at any of our given grocery stores. During the early parts of this week, when I finally made my venture back to Maine, I figured I should buy8344048410_176048abb9 some if I expected to actually survive because as we all know food and better yet, grocery shopping is a necessity.

I decided to explore the options of the local Hannaford supermarket. It was quite the adventure. Now it is not like I haven’t been grocery shopping before but I have never been in the position of “what will I eat for the next two weeks with the $50 left in my pocket after rent.” This was very new. First off Hannaford is backwards. Well, maybe only compared to the Big Y and Geisslers. Surprised, I found myself walking straight into the fresh fruit and bakery section. Then cheeses (There were over 100 forms of cheese that I had never thought to consider before).

With all of the potions past that for simple college budget acceptable foods was the varying price range. Even with the varying collection of meats I have found that they are still too expensive so those are on the metaphorical back burner for now, imagesunfortunately, and I found that I have never before debated the importance of ice cream so heavily in my life. Suffice to say I considered that my splurge item of the trip.

Preparing to live on your own is a learning experience. Not to long ago my roommate and I were discussing additional costs to living. First we reviewed electricity because I would like the fridge and lights to work when I move in, personal preference. Then cable because that is separate, followed by classes, gas, shopping for cleaning supplies and food, and of course furniture. There is so much to figuring out how to manage the place you learn to call home.

There are the fun parts too of course, experimental cooking with what you do decide to buy (failure…mysterious concoctions…tasty delights). Once I get my bearings it will be experiments galore!! chef-29205_640
