That New England Breeze

Coming back to mid-Maine, after a weekend hooray with my family, I found an easing chill in the air.

unnamedThis lead to snugly plaid blankets and the early onset of my hot cocoa addiction. My supplies had dwindled surprisingly since my last resupply. I shall have to fix that!

Along with the coming of a cool breeze I find that an onslaught of rain has decided to follow. More excitingly, apple and pumpkin picking seasons have finally opened their fiery colored doors again along with that of the brown furrowed gates of moose season! Maine has quite the collection of miniature seasons within New England’s autumn time. Up north amongst the fields it is time for the potato harvest, in the woods, it’s a free for all for buck, grouse, duck and for those lucky with permits – moose. For the rest of us without hunting licenses and fields beside us we welcome trips out to corn mazes and orchards. Not to mention loads of apple cider will meet us in the grocery stores and pickin’ places.

Even the lack of a license does not mean that I will be neglecting the former. This upcoming break I will be accompanying a few friends as they make their ways through Maine’s woods to get what grouse they can! Four being the limit of course. I have never been hunting and have heard a few of their tales/methods to hunting such as the de-feathering, or rather the inverting of the bird…I have never heard it described that way before and I am hesitant to see what they mean by that.

Recently I also decided to look up the rules and regulations surrounding this hunting season. During this search, I found the site of the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife. As it turns out, if you email them about the link below they will send you a free copy of the rules and regulations book regarding hunting! I decided that if I was going to see what it is like then I should be prepared as best I can.

So I asked for one! unnamedThey mailed it to me and I received it in no time at all. I’m feeling wicked ready for this weekend!
